C.O.P.E. welcomes Willow Run Community Schools Student Services Administrator, Laconda Hicks, to our board of directors. Ms. Hicks is the Director of Student Support Services at Willow Run Community Schools. In the past, she has worked in Detroit Public Schools as a teacher for several years, and most recently as Special Education Department Chair and Community Vocational Coordinator for Southfield Public Schools. She is also currently a Doctoral Candidate at Cambridge College in Massachusetts. Of her passion for working with students, she states, “I grew-up in a household with a disabled sister, therefore I was an advocate for handicapped children before I even knew what an advocate was. Assisting the special needs population is my passion, and I highly regard this responsibility”. Ms. Hicks stated she gladly accepted the nomination to the C.O.P.E. board because she believes the program is a great resource to the community.

Ms. Hicks on C.O.P.E.: C.O.P.E. serves the counties at-risk population, and concentrates on rehabilitating the whole child with dignity. The center has a well trained, caring staff that supports students and families with reaching their full potential.
